The Brijeshwari Temple (Kangra Devi Temple) is a world known as Shakti Peeth. The Hindu mythology says that Lord Shiva performed tandava with the burning body of his beloved wife on his shoulder, Goddess Sati, who set herself on fire.

In order to stop an angry and melancholic Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu divided Goddess Sati’s body into 51 parts, with each part falling on different parts of the world and forming a Shaktipeeth. The left breast of the burning Goddess Sati fell on the land where the breathtaking Brijeshwari Temple stands today, making it one of the most visited pilgrim spots in India.
